If Murfreesboro were in the State of Maine it would be the largest city in that state. Let that sink in. Murfreesboro would be the largest city in several other states as well. That is a reality which cannot be denied. Change itself is neither good nor bad. It is simply a fact that change happens. What is important is how we adapt to that change. That is our choice.
For folks who have lived here in for some time you may be disheartened to see what is familiar and comfortable changing. That is understandable. Folks new to the area were drawn here because of many positive aspects of our community.( Lets face it. They don’t come here for the negatives.)
People bring with them their notions and preconceived impressions regarding the community they are moving to. Some folks believe that because Southerners speak slowly that their brain is slow as well. Silly, but it is a true prejudice! That’s fine if they want to think that way. Just be warned, if you don’t let go of that thought quickly upon moving here you will soon find yourself outplayed in business and in community life.
For folks moving to the warmer climates of Tennessee you should know that we value conversation, family and community. We cling to our history just as you cling to yours. Rutherford County is a diverse community which is full of opportunities. Sure, we have our issues but by volume they are probably less than you are accustomed to dealing with previously.
Now, since we are such a great place in which to live, how do we continue to pay for that changes increased migration to our community brings? I know what our sister states in the North do. But that’s why you left! Well, Southerners tend to be pragmatic and we can probably come up with something. Welcome to Tennessee and welcome to the South.
